Traffic on the N3 came to a standstill this morning (Monday) with both the south and northbound highways being closed to traffic following a serious accident.
Four men were killed when the minibus taxi they were travelling in collided with an SUV light motor vehicle on the N3 northbound, opposite Spruitview.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) were called to the scene at 5am.
“It was reported that two vehicles were involved in a horrific crash.
“On arrival, a minibus taxi with 15 passengers was found lying on its side in the middle of the road and the SUV, still with the driver inside, was found on the road island between the north and southbound freeways,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.
The four men were found lying outside the taxi wreckage.
“The men were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
“Thirteen other patients, both drivers included, were transported, by road, to various medical facilities around the metro for further medical care,” said Ntladi.
