In their effort to rid the area of crime, Ekurhuleni West Cluster police stations embarked on crime prevention activities in various policing precincts over the weekend dated September 28 to 30.
Ekurhuleni West Cluster communications officer Sgt Rufus Tema said the stations, namely Alberton, Bedfordview, Brackendowns, Eden Park, Elsburg, Germiston, Primrose, Katlehong North and South, Tokoza, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe, managed to arrest 72 suspects during normal operations such as tracing of wanted suspects and stop-and-searches.
“The suspects were arrested for crimes such as common assault, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, murder, possession of dagga, house break-in and theft, dealing in alcohol without a licence and theft general,” said Tema.
He said other suspects were arrested for malicious damage to property, shoplifting, and drunk driving.
All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the cluster soon.
