At about 6.44am, Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team and paramedics from Germiston Central fire station swiftly responded to a motor vehicle accident. The two minibus taxis ferrying passengers – a hatchback and an articulated truck – were all involved in the crash.
Three front passengers and the driver were trapped inside the wreckage. Rescuers used jaws of life facility to rescue them. The driver and a female passenger were declared dead on the scene by the paramedics. Four other passengers were critically injured, and sixteen others, including those from the second minibus, sustained serious to minor injuries.
