two killed in deadly accident

Two minibus taxi occupants died following a four-vehicle crash.

At about 6.44am, Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team and paramedics from Germiston Central fire station swiftly responded to a motor vehicle accident. The two minibus taxis ferrying passengers – a hatchback and an articulated truck – were all involved in the crash.

Three front passengers and the driver were trapped inside the wreckage. Rescuers used jaws of life facility to rescue them. The driver and a female passenger were declared dead on the scene by the paramedics. Four other passengers were critically injured, and sixteen others, including those from the second minibus, sustained serious to minor injuries. The injured were transported to various medical facilities around the City of Ekurhuleni.

Witnesses claim that one of the minibus taxis tried to overtake a truck that was turning but crashed directly into the trailer. This resulted in a pileup.

The road was closed for the duration of the operations and scene was handed over to the EMPD officers for further investigations.
