Kathorus weekend crime roundup

The is where the police officers parked the car outside the petrol statio,n where five armed men attempted to rob the petrol station in Katlehong. During the attempted robbery Const Tshepo Tladi was gunned down.

All the suspects were arrested during routine stop and search operations conducted by the Katlehong Crime Prevention Unit. Suspects were arrested for the following crimes:

• 6 arrested for assault and serious assault,

• 1 arrested for rape,

• 2 for driving under the influence of alcohol,

• 1 for malicious damage to property,

• 1 for failing to furnish his particulars,

• 3 for being in possession of dagga.

The suspects are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court today (Monday). The Katlehong SAPS acting station commander, Col Nomthandeki Mthembu, has expressed her gratitude to the community for its vigilance and in reporting crime incidents to the police.

Mthembu also thanked her colleagues in ensuring that those who are a threat to society are removed from the communities. She has, however, urged members of the public to come forward with information about car hijackings and wanted robbery suspects around Katlehong.

“Together we can bring the level of crime down.”
