Erasmus Monareng honours Grade 11 achievers

Erasmus Monareng Secondary School’s top Grade 11 learners from last year were rewarded for their excellent exam results. With them are head of life orientation Lindiwe Mabena (in red jacket), school principal Sharon Maboa (in pink dress), Phakamani Mtshali of sponsoring company PK Print Zone (right), and SGB member Katleho Seage (in grey shirt at the back).

The celebration took place at the school on Friday, February 2.

“We have chosen the top 12,” said school principal Sharon Maboa. “These learners passed with flying colours last year and they are now in Grade 12. We hope they will once again fly the school flag high come the end-of-the-year exams.”

Maboa said they wanted to motivate the Class of 2018 to work even harder and excel in their studies.

Learners were awarded with certificates and trophies for their achievements. The top two learners received special blazers.

Phakamani Mtshali of PK Print Zone, the company that sponsored the event, said he had to give back to the community that supports his business.

“My company is based in Johannesburg but I receive huge support from the Vosloorus community,” said Mtshali. “The reason why I had to help is because I want to bring about change in the community. I want to support township schools so that they will achieve similar results as the schools in towns.”

Mtshali appealed to parents to keep their children in township schools. “The sylabus is the same. Learners in expensive schools in towns get similar education as the education these learners get here.”

He invited more schools to come forward if they want his company to sponsor them. He can be contacted on 082 210 5838.

Lindiwe Mabena, head of life orientation at the school, thanked Mtshali for his kind act. “If this country had more people like him who can invest in the education of black children in township schools, these schools would have achieved a lot more a long time ago,” said Mabena.
