Clr Dlabathi addressed learners during the school assembly at Tlakula High School on January 18.

Last year, the office of the chief whip adopted 90 learners across Ekurhuleni of which 30 of the matric learners came from Tlakula High.

The learners were assisted in mathematics, accounting and physical science.

The school achieved 17 bachelor degree, 56 diploma and 24 higher certificate passes, and a total of 97 learners passed their matric.

Clr Dlabathi said the learners must strive to do better in the year of 2018.

Meanwhile, chairperson of Palesa Ya Sechaba Foundation Dolly Mokgete has committed to working closely with the office of the chief whip in ensuring that the work to impact the lives of our future leaders is realised.

The primary objective of the foundation is to bring together all the stakeholders in ensuring that challenges faced by the school are addressed.

“Our commitment to education is a standing commitment – such inspires us to double our efforts,” Cllr Dlabathi said.

He further pleaded with the parents to continue supporting their kids in 2018.

“We, all of us must support them.”

Ntsane Masiloane, the director of NMSEP expressed his gratitude for the partnership.

“NMSEP is grateful for the opportunity to join forces with the office of the chief whip of Ekurhuleni in order to bring about transformation and development in the education of our township learners,” he said.

Mayoyo Skosana is among the learners who participated in the programme and achieved five level seven (80-100%) and two level six (70-79%) passes and will study electrical engineering at the University of Pretoria.

The school’s governing body’s deputy secretary Felicia Rakgabyane pleaded with the parents to take part in the learning and teaching at the school.

She said the learners must also respect their teachers, and support from their parents is paramount.

The office of the chief whip will expand by adopting two more schools within the region, North and South of Ekurhuleni respectively.

Gondoana Mathematics will assist in the programme.
