Kathorus people share their New Year’s resolutions

Vusi Moya

Buyile Ntuli from Vosloorus.

She is a teacher at Tshabalala Primary School in Katlehong.

She is currently renting a house in Vosloorus with her fiancé.

“This year I would like to own a house of my own where we will raise our children together,” said Buyile. “If the grace of God is by my side I would like us to own a car as well. It might not be an expensive car but a car that will take us to and from work and that can move us around to the malls.”

Samkelisiwe Hlophe from Katlehong.

She is currently unemployed but would like to be a dressmaker one day.

“I want to register a course towards becoming a dressmaker. By the end of this year I want to have certificates of that,” said Samkelisiwe. “I have a talent of sewing traditional outfits. The reason why I want to have certificates is because people do not pay me enough because they know I am not qualified in what I do.”

Phindile Hlophe from Katlehong.

“I am currently unemployed but I have a talent in cooking. This year I would like to something about it,” said Phindile. “I want to register a course in catering. I would like to have certificates that will allow me to look for a decent job and probably own a catering company.”

Vusi Moya from Thokoza.

“I am self-employed. I help people by fixing their electrical appliances like stoves, kettles, iron, radios, television sets, etc. This year I would like to study electrical engineering and get certificates for the job I love,” said Vusi. “I will use the little money I have saved to register and hope the business will go well for me so that I will be able to pay for my studies until I finish. If I can get sponsors I will highly appreciate.”

Captain Buyisile Mvelase from Katlehong.

She is a communications official at Thokoza Police Station.

She said she does not have New Year’s resolutions but new life resolutions.

“I don’t want to set any resolutions for this year because there were times where I wanted to achieve certain things but couldn’t,” said Buyisile. “This year I would like to achieve all those things I failed to achieve all these years. As a police woman I would like to work close to the community.

“Another thing I would like is to be a successful woman and respect one rule in life – never lie to myself,” added Buyisile. “Because most of us depend on other people to do things for us and end up gossiping because people did not manage to do what we wanted them to do for us. I would like to listen more to the people because there is a reason for everything they are saying. I would like to focus on living, following my dream and working on the ideas I have to become a reality. Lastly I would like to let go of the things I can’t change.”
