Body of 12-year-old boy found in river

The Katlehong SAPS recently dispatched a rescue team to search for a 12-year-old boy who went missing in the Natalspruit River in Moleleki Extension Two.

It is alleged that the boy, originally from the Zonkizizwe area, had been visiting friends in Khumalo Section when the incident occurred.

The group of friends had been playing along the river bank when the boy slipped and fell into the river.

It is reported that he tried to swim but the river currents overpowered him.

The police rescue team was alerted to the incident and began their search immediately upon arrival.

The search came to a halt two days later when the boy’s body was found under the M7 in the Zonkizizwe area.

The Katlehong station commander appealed to the community of Katlehong to safeguard their children.

He further advised them to be cautious and use suitable bridges to cross the river as it is dangerous.

An incident inquest docket has been opened to investigate the drowning.
