The fleet was unveiled at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station, in Boksburg, on Saturday, by Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina.

According to William Ntladi, media liaison manager for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, the fleet will intensify quality rescue and emergency medical services requirements within the city.

“The emphasis is on the sustainability of quality service delivery and improved and quicker response time to medical emergency calls,” he said.

After the official handover of the vehicles’ keys and an inspection by the mayor, red lights and sirens blared throughout the station in celebration.

The new fleet was welcomed with enthusiasm by those in attendance at the launch, which included community members, municipal officials and Ekurhuleni Community Safety MMC, Clr Vivian Chauke.

“After the launch, vehicles were handed over to managers from 29 fire stations, who drove them away to their respective stations to use with immediate effect,” added Ntladi.
