Local DJ won the battle of the DJs at Carnival City

Talented Lefa Madume (DJ Levis) entertains the crowd. He took first prize, which includes a one-year performance contract worth R300 000. He will be the resident DJ at Bru’s Bar and will play every Saturday night for the whole year.

A local youth has won the Battle of the DJs, which took place at Carnival City from Friday, December 29, to New Year’s Eve on December 31.

Lefa Madume, aka DJ Levis, of Marimba Section

Ext 26 in Vosloorus, walked away with a one-year performance contract worth

R300 000. He will be the resident DJ at Bru’s Bar and will play every

Saturday night for the whole year.

The runner-up, Stefaan Kubheka (DJ Decento), received R10 000 and a weekend away to Sun City.

The Battle of the DJs 2016 was held at Carnival City’s new Sun Park and Beach Bar and was hosted by the famous DJ Euphonik, who also performed in the various rounds of the competition.

Telling the Kathorus MAIL about his performances, Madume said it was very interesting to share the stage with other DJs.

“I was very nervous during the qualifying stages on December 9, but I regained my cool as the competition grew,” he said. “During the semi- finals on December 30, the nerves were no longer there. Not to mention during the finals on December 31, I was at the top of my game.

“What gave me more confidence was when I heard the crowd cheering for me each time I ascended the podium, and the way they danced when I played. It made me believe in myself, because it meant only one thing: that I’m good at what I do,” said Madume.

The competition was tough, said Madume.

“Other DJs did not make it easy for me. They played very well. It means I was good because I ended up getting first prize,” he said.

Madume also spoke about his kwaito CD single that he released last year, called Kasi Lami, featuring Real.

“It is one of the most downloaded CDs. Most of the people who downloaded it do not complain about wasting their money.

“Very soon I will be releasing a house music CD, which I specialise in. On that CD I will be featuring Kay,” said Maduma.

Amin, Madume’s older brother, said as the family they are proud of his achievement.

“This marks the beginning of big things that are yet to happen in his life. We are very happy for him as a family. Ever since he started his music career, we knew that he was going to go far because of his passion and talent.

“Because of his humble and quiet character and respect, nothing will stand in his way,” said Amin.

Madume concluded by saying he is available on social media: on Facebook he is DJ Levis and you can tweet him @djlevis01.
